The Area

Owd Betts is situated in an area which is understandably popular with walkers. Directly across the A680 Rochdale to Edenfield road is Ashworth reservoir, and beyond this are the Ashworth and Cheeseden valleys where the remains of several old mills may be found. Over the reservoir are panoramic views of Bury, Heywood, and Ramsbottom which is overlooked by the Peel Tower (a monument to Sir Robert Peel - Prime Mininster and founder of the modern day police force - who was born in Bury.) To the rear, standing between the pub and the moors, towers Knowl Hill (1,371 feet) and from the top the views are even more spectacular.

The pub is what many would describe as a typically English country inn. Stone built it has three main rooms each with it's own fireplace, all of which lend to the overall charm.

When the weather is fine it is relaxing to take advantage of the pub's outside faciliites: To the front and side of the pub are benches and tables, and to the rear is a large beer garden with an area for children to play.
